BLOOMFIELD MEN AND PHILADELPHIA WOMEN WIN 2008-09 ALFRED R. RESTAINO, SR., CUPS
New Haven, CT (5/26/09) The Bloomfield College men and Philadelphia University women have claimed the 2008-09 Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., Cups in an announcement made today by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Commissioner Dan Mara. The cups are given annually to the institutions that perform the best across the board in CACC-sponsored sports.
NEW HAVEN, CT (May 26, 2009) - The Bloomfield College men and Philadelphia University women have claimed the 2008-09 Alfred R. Restaino, Sr., Cups in an announcement made today by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Commissioner Dan Mara. The cups are given annually to the institutions that perform the best across the board in CACC-sponsored sports.
The point system used for the award takes into account each team's finish in both the CACC regular-season and conference tournament. Each school receives a combined point total, and that total is divided by the number of sports the institution sponsors.
Bloomfield (9.20) won the men's award by a very narrow margin over Philadelphia (9.08) after qualifying for the CACC Tournament in soccer, basketball, tennis and baseball. The Deacons reached the CACC Tournament Championship game in men's basketball and won the North Division regular-season championship. BC was also the No. 2 seed for the CACC Baseball Tournament.
Philadelphia won the CACC Tournament Championship in basketball and took home the first-ever CACC men's tennis championship. The Rams also won regular-season championships in both sports and finished third in cross country.
Wilmington University (8.05), Holy Family University (8.00) and Post University (7.91) rounded out the top five in the final standings for the men.
Philadelphia won the women's cup after notching CACC Tournament Championships in cross country, tennis, basketball and lacrosse. The Lady Rams also played for the CACC Championship in women's soccer and volleyball and qualified for the softball tournament for the first time since becoming a member of the CACC.
Georgian Court finished second with 11.21 points after claiming CACC Championships in soccer, volleyball and softball. The Lions also advanced to the CACC Tournament Championship match in lacrosse and finished second at the cross country championship.
Holy Family (9.60), Caldwell College (9.04) and Wilmington (8.50) round out the top five in the women's standings.
