DOMINICAN ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY SET FOR SEPTEMBER 27TH
Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/12/19) Dominican College induct six individuals into the Dominican College Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, September 27th. The Hall of Fame will honor its 25th class of inductees.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (8/12/19) Dominican College induct six individuals into the Dominican College Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, September 27th. The Hall of Fame will honor its 25th class of inductees.
Michael Coffey '10, former assistant men's basketball coach and assistant director of sports information, will be posthumously honored as the 20th Hall of Famer in the service category. He will be inducted alongside men's soccer player Tom Rolston '06, men's basketball player Prince Jackson '08, softball player Sarah Beck '09, women's basketball player Althea Chambers '09 and men's lacrosse player Alexander Jones '11. This class of honorees will increase the membership into the Dominican College Athletic Hall of Fame to 101 individuals (20th service members and 81 athletes) and 15 teams.
Rolston was a key member of the Chargers soccer defense for four-years. He was a two-time All-CACC First Team selection, a member of the CACC All-Tournament Team, named to the NCAA Division II New England Regional All-Tournament Team and was an All-Region Third Team pick in his senior year. In his junior and senior seasons, the team won the CACC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. In his senior year, he was part of the team that became the first program in school history to compete at an NCAA Regional. That 2005 team was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.
Jackson was a two-year member of the Chargers basketball team under head coach and director of athletics, Joseph S. Clinton. In just two years, he scored 1044 points, which puts him 28th all-time in the 1000 Point Club. He averaged 18.6 points per game and led the team in scoring in his senior year. Jackson was a two-time All-CACC First Team selection and earned CACC Player of the Week honors during his career.
Beck enjoyed a stellar career on the Lady Charger softball team and a two-year team captain. She currently is the all-time leader in Lady Charger Softball history in runs batted in. She sits second all-time in doubles, third in hits and home runs, seventh in batting average and 10th in triples. In her senior year, she led the conference in batting average, hits, runs scored, total bases and runs batted in. Beck was a three-time All-CACC First Team selection, while earning both the CACC and ECAC Player of the Year Awards in her senior year. Also, in 2009 she was named to the 2009 Daktronics NCAA Division II East All-Region First Team and to the Daktronics All-American Softball Second Team. Beck was also a two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Northeast Region First Team selection.
Chambers was a four-year standout on the Lady Charger basketball team and three-year team captain. She currently sits 12th all-time in women's basketball history in rebounds and ranks 18th in the Sue Heller 1000 Point Club. A three-time CACC All-Academic Team selection, Chambers led the team in scoring and rebounding in her final season. In her senior year, she was named to the All-CACC First Team, the Daktronics NCAA Division II East All-Region Second Team and to the All-Met First Team. Chamber's senior year also saw the Lady Chargers make their first appearance at an NCAA East Regional Tournament in program history.
Jones was a four-year player on the men's lacrosse team. The all-time leader in the Charger 100 Goal Club, he also holds the all-time record for points and ranks sixth all-time in assists. He was a two-time All-ECC Second Team selection and received All-ECC Honorable Mention accolades during his career. Jones led the team in his junior and senior year in goals and points, while finishing ninth in the ECC in goals per game in his senior year.
Coffey began his journey at Dominican College in the fall of 2006 as a student and after meeting with Coach Clinton, served as the manager of the men's basketball team for four years. Upon graduation, he was hired as an assistant men's basketball coach and volunteered in the sports information department. In August of 2015, Coffey became the first full-time assistant director of sports information in addition to his coaching responsibilites and held these positions until his sudden passing on April 20, 2016. Each December, the men's basketball team hosts the Annual Mike Coffey Memorial Game and his memory contiues to live on within the Dominican College Athletic Department.
The 25th Annual Dominican College Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and reception will be held in the Granito Center on the campus of Dominican College at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 27th. The night begins with a champagne toast for the 2019 Honorees and past Honorees at 6:30 pm in the Badami Room in the Granito Center.
