#4 DOWLING COLLEGE RALLIES TO DEFEAT #1 DOMINICAN COLLEGE
Rindge, NH (5/16/09) The #4 Dowling College Lions rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the #1 Dominican College Chargers, 4-3 this evening at the 2009 NCAA Division II Baseball East Regional Championships. With the loss Dominican is eliminated from the Tournament.

The Chargers got on the board in the first inning as freshman center fielder Alexi Colon (Millville, NJ) led off the game with a walk, moved to second on a ground out and came in to score on the RBI two-out double to right center by third basemen Michael Munoz (Bronx, NY).
DC added a run in the sixth as junior Willie Mann (Patterson, NY) had a two-out double to left field to plate as Munoz, who had been hit by a pitch earlier in the inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the eighth designated hitter Yordis Veras (Jamaica, NY) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved to second and third on wild pitches. Right fielder Dan Robinson (Massapequa, NY) hit into a double play as Veras came in to score and give the Chargers a 3-0 lead.
Dowling got a run in the bottom of eighth on a Charger throwing error and in the ninth an infield chopper brought in a run and a two-run double to the gap in right center allowed the game tying and game winning run to score and lift the Lions to a 4-3 victory.
Charger starter Todd Craig (Shenandoah, PA) went eight innings, allowing one run (none earned) on eight hits and six shutouts in the no decision. Freshman hurler Justin Moore (Wantagh, NY) suffered the loss (1-1) allowing three runs on four hits in the ninth.
With the victory Dowling (32-16) advance to the East Regional Championships which will be held at Franklin Pierce University tomorrow. Dominican ends the season with a record of 38-14.
