CHARGERS BASEBALL BEAT CALDWELL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (5/5/11) The Dominican College baseball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College, 5-3 , this afternoon in a non-conference game held at Veteran's Park. With the win Dominican ends the regular season with an overall record of 26-15.

The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and held that lead until the bottom of the second inning as the Chargers struck for two runs. In the second inning, senior catcher Robert Iglesias (Mays Landing, NJ) led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on the walk issued to Tyler Sadawske (Waukesha, WI). Christopher Brown (Tenafly, NJ) put down a sacrifice bunt, but a Cougar error allowed him to reach base and both runners to advance a base. Iglesias scored and all runners moved on a wild pitch and Sadawske scored on the RBI single to center field off the bat of senior second basemen Mario Lopez (Anthony, NM) to tie the contest at 2-2.
DC added two runs in the third inning as Iglesias reached on a fielder's choice which platted a run and Sadawske later followed with a single through the left field line to score a run and put the Chargers ahead 4-2.
The Cougars put a run on the board in the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-3, but Dominican added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on the RBI double to right center field off the bat of Lopez to five the Chargers the final 5-3 victory.
Starter Dave Bartuska (Duryea, PA) got the win to improve to 8-2 on the season as he went five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four strikeouts. Reliever Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) picked up his second save of the season after going four innings and allowinge one run on one hit and two strikeouts.
Lopez led the Chargers with two hits on the day.
Today was the final regular season game for Dominican as they will take part in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament which will take place next week.
