Miami Gardens, FL (2/29/12) The Dominican College baseball team avenged a non-conference loss last night to St. Thomas University by beating the host,9-7, this evening in a game played at Esposito Stadium. With the win, Dominican improves to 1-2 overall, while St. Thomas falls to 14-4 on the season.

STU held a 1-0 lead after two innings of play when the Chargers struck for three runs as Tom Liang (Bronx, NY), Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY) and Robert Alfonso (Kingston, NY) hit back-to-back-to-back one out singles to load the bases and Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) later walked with the bases loaded. A Panther error allowed Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) to reach base and two runs to score for the 3-1 lead.
The Panthers got a run back in the fourth inning to cut the lead to a run, but the Chargers offense opened up the game with six runs in the sixth inning for a 9-1 lead. An RBI double by Camardella brought in Gonzalez, who had singled to lead off the inning. A sacrifice RBI fly ball to left field by Tyler Clark (Cheshire, CT) scored Camardella and Liang reached on an error which brought in the third DC run of the inning. Bonilla followed with a three run triple.
STU scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and added runs in the seventh and ninth for the final 9-7 Charger victory.
Left-handed starter, Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, NY) picked up the win (1-0), allowing two runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
Dominican wraps up the three game series with St. Thomas University tomorrow evening at 6pm.
