BASEBALL SWEEPS CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE
Lafayette Hill, PA (3/26/12) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Chestnut Hill College, this afternoon. Dominican won game one, 9-6, and took the nightcap, 7-4, to improve to 6-15 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Lafayette Hill, PA (3/26/12) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Chestnut Hill College, this afternoon. Dominican won game one, 9-6, and took the nightcap, 7-4, to improve to 6-15 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican scored two runs in the first on two doubles down the left field line by Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) and Tyler Clark (Cheshire, CT). The team added a run in the second on an single up-the-middle by Oliver Christensen (Coral Springs, FL) to take a 3-1 lead.
DC added a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings on a sacrifice fly ball by Camardella, a fielding error and a single down the left field line by Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) to make the score 6-4.
CHC added two runs in the eighth to tie the game, 6-6, but the Chargers struck for three runs in the ninth on a three-run blast by Clark for the eventual 9-6 lead.
Freshman Matthew Festa (Staten Island, NY) picked up his first collegiate win (1-0) in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Game Two: The Griffins led 1-0 until the top of the fifth inning when the Chargers put three runs on the board with two scoring on a CHC error and the third run on an RBI single by Camardella to go ahead 3-1. CHC scored two runs in the bottom stanza to tie the score at 3-3.
DC broke the tie in the eighth inning as Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate a run and give the Chargers a 4-3 lead. Dominican added three runs in the ninth on a single to right field by Christensen and a two-run single to left field by Clark to make the score 9-3. CHC put a run on the board in the ninth for the final 7-4 score.
Reliever Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, NY) got the win (1-2) in three innings of work, alowing one run (not earned) on three hits and five strikeouts.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow when they host C.W. Post University in a non-conference game.
