BASEBALL SPLITS CACC DOUBLE HEADER WITH PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY
Pomona, NY (4/11/12) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University this afternoon in games played at Provident Bank Park. The Rams shut out the Chargers, 8-0, in the opener, while Dominican exploded for 15 runs in the nightcap for a 15-0 victory to now stand at 12-19 overall and 6-6 in the CACC.

The Rams shut out the Chargers, 8-0, in the opener, while Dominican exploded for 15 runs in the nightcap for a 15-0 victory to now stand at 12-19 overall and 6-6 in the CACC.
Game One: Dominican recorded eight hits in game one, but struggled as they left 11 runners on base in the 8-0 loss.
Freshman Anthony Pastrana (Queens, NY) suffered the loss (1-4) in five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.
Game Two: The offense came alive in game two as the Chargers put six runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. DC started off the inning with six straight hits, which included an RBI single by Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY), a two-run triple by Tony Blake (Windsor, CT) and and RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY). A Ram error allowed the fifth Charger run to score and a squeeze bunt from Robert Alonso (Kingston, NY) brought home the sixth run of the inning.
An RBI single up-the-middle from right fielder Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) in the second made the score 7-0 and he later followed in the sixth inning with a two-run double to left field to increase the lead to 9-0.
In the seventh inning, Camardella picked up his second RBI of the game on a double and the Chargers tacked on five more runs in the eighth for the 15-0 lead. Peter Martinez (White Plains, NY) reached on a fielder's choice which scored a run and on the play a Ram throwing error brought home two more runs. A fielding error on a ball hit by Oliver Christensen (Coral Springs, FL) scored two runs.
Junior pitcher Caleb Whiteley (San Antonio, TX) got the complete game, shut-out victory to improve to 2-0 on the season, scattering just six hits and striking out seven batters.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow as they take on St. Thomas Aquinas College at Provident Bank Park.
