BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM CALDWELL COLLEGE
Caldwell, NJ (4/14/12) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 15-20 overall and 8-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating host, Caldwell College, this afternoon in CACC double-header action played at Kiwanis Oval. Dominican won game one, 11-5 and took the nightcap, 5-2.
Caldwell, NJ (4/14/12) The Dominican College baseball team improved to 15-20 overall and 8-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating host, Caldwell College, this afternoon in CACC double-header action played at Kiwanis Oval. Dominican won game one, 11-5 and took the nightcap, 5-2.
Game One: Dominican struck for three runs in the top of the first inning on a three-run home run over the centerfield fence off the bat of Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, NY). Dominican added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI singled down the left field line by Christopher Gonzalez (Bronx, NY) to go ahead 4-0.
A two-run sixth inning on an RBI single by freshman Oliver Christensen (Coarl Springs, FL) gave the Chargers a 6-0 lead and a run in the seventh as Gonzalez was hit by-a-pitch with the bases loaded made the score 7-0.
The Cougars got two runs back in the eighth inning, but Dominican put four runs on the scoreboard in the top half of the ninth inning with Bonilla and Robert Alonso (Kingston, NY) getting RBI singles and Gonzalez producing a two-run single gave Dominican an 11-2 lead en route to the 11-5 victory.
Justin Moore* (Wantagh, NY) got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year as he went seven innings, allowing five hits and four strikeouts.
Bonilla and Gonzalez each had three hits and four RBIs in the game.
Game Two: The Chargers score a run in the second and third inning on RBI hits from Gonzalez and Andrew Camardella (Pelham, NY) to go ahead 2-0. DC added a run in the sixth on a double to right field by catcher Tyler Clark (Cheshire, CT) for a 3-0 lead. Caldwell got two runs back in the bottom stanza to make the score 3-2.
A double down the left field line from Tyler Sadawske (Waukesha, WI) in the eighth inning gave the Chargers the eventual 5-2 victory.
Dustin Javins (Fort Lauderdale, FL) got the complete game victory, allowing two runs on six hits and four strikeouts.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they host Felician College in a CACC double-header.
