GIANNETTI REACHES MILESTONE AS CHARGERS SPLIT WITH WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
Pomona, N.Y. (3/15/13) Dominican College baseball coach, Rick Giannetti, recorded his 700th career coaching victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header split with the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University today in games played at Provident Bank Park. DC took game one 6-5 in 11 innings, while the 'Cats won the night cap 13-0.

(3/15/13) Dominican College baseball coach, Rick Giannetti, recorded his 700th career coaching victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header split with the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University today in games played at Provident Bank Park. DC took game one 6-5 in 11 innings, while the 'Cats won the night cap 13-0.
Game One: Freshman Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) got the game winning RBI single to right field to score Kenny Harrell (Pompano Beach, Fla.) in the bottom half of the eleventh inning for the 6-5 victory.
DC took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as left fielder Tony Blake (Windsor, Conn.) hit his first two-run blast of the season over the right field fence and Lopez later followed with a one out RBI double to left center.
The Charger added a run in the fourth on the RBI ground out by senior Andrew Camardella (Pelham, N.Y.) to give the team a 4-0 lead.
Wilmington came back with a four run sixth inning to tie the contest at 4-all. In the seventh, designated hitter Jacob Ostroff (Delmar, N.Y.) hit a bases loaded RBI single up-the-middle to put DC ahead 5-4. The 'Cats once again came back and tied the game with a run in the eighth inning to make the score 5-5.
In the eleventh, Lopez came to the plate with two on and two out and delievered the game winning single for the 6-5 win.
Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) got the win in 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing one run on one hit. Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) went 5 1/3 innings in the no decision.
Dominican pounded out 15 hits in game one, with Blake recording four hits.
Game Two: Wilmington recorded 14 hits in the second game en route to the 13-0 shut out.
Right-handed pitcher Matthew Festa (Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the loss (0-1) in four innings of work, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits.
Giannetti, who is in his 24th year at the helm of the Charger baseball program, is the first coach in DC history to reach the 700 career win plateau. His current career coaching record now stands at 700-456 and his DC record now stands at 654-406.
DC returns to action on March 19th as they travel to Molloy Colllege.
