Brookville, N.Y. (3/27/13) The Chargers baseball team won in non-conference action to host, Long Island University Post, 8-5, this afternoon. Following the win, the team is now 4-7 overall while the Pioneers fall to 8-11 on the season.
The Pioneers led 1-0 after one inning, but the Chargers charged back with a four run second inning to take a 4-1 advantage. Catcher Leonardo Bravo (Bronx, N.Y.) scored the first two runs on a single to center field and shortstop Kenny Harrell (Pompano Beach, Fla.) followed with an RBI ground out. Sophomore Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) then hit a run scoring single to left field for the 4-1 lead.
LIU Post got a run back in the bottom stanza, but DC regained a three run lead in the fourth inning on a triple to right field off the bat of Alonso to make the score 5-2.
Two more Pioneer runs in the sixth and one in the seventh tied the contest at 5-5, but the Chargers once again rallied as Harrell had a sacrifice bunt which brought home a run in the eighth and DC added two more runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Kevin Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) and Nick Delgado (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for the 8-5 final score.
Richard Leachy (Brookfield, Wis.) got the win (1-0) in three innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits.
Starter Jordan Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) went six innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and three strikeouts.
Both Alonso and Lopez recorded two hits in the game, while Alonso, Bravo and Harrell each had two RBIs in the win.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow as they take on Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header.
