(4/13/13) The Dominican College baseball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College, 8-5 and 17-4, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header played this afternoon at Provident Bank Park. With the wins, DC improves to 17-12 overall and 12-2 in the CACC.

(4/13/13) The Dominican College baseball team defeated the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College, 8-5 and 17-4, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header played this afternoon at Provident Bank Park. With the wins, DC improves to 17-12 overall and 12-2 in the CACC.
Game One: Dominican got on the board first with two runs in the second inning as Tony Blake (Windsor, Conn.) grounded out to score a run and Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) reached on an error which brought home another run.
The Chargers added to more runs in the fourth on the RBI single off the bat of Kenny Harrell (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and the sacrifice fly ball from Kevin Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) to extend the lead to 4-0. DC added a run in the fifth on the RBI single from Blake to make the score 5-0. The Cougars had a four-run sixth inning and added a run in the seventh to go ahead, 5-4.
DC came back with three runs in the eighth stanza, as a Caldwell fielding error allowed Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) to reach base and two runs to score, while later Rodriguez had an RBI ground out to regain the lead for Dominican, 8-5.
Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) got the win in relief (3-1), allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and two strikeouts. Starter Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: The Cougars struck for a run in the top of the first inning, but the Chargers charged back as they scored runs in the first six innings to take a commanding, 14-1 lead.
The Cougars scored a run in the eighth, but DC countered with three runs to extend the lead to 17-2. CC scored two runs in the ninth for the final 17-4 Charger victory.
Dominican pounded out a season high 22 hits in the win, while six players had multi-hits in the game.
Dylan Ebel (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Lopez each had four hits in the contest.
Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) had three hits, while three other players had two hits in the win.
Right-handed pitcher Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) got the win in seven innings of work, allowing one run on five hits. Tom Liang (Bronx, N.Y.) came in to pitch the seventh and Jesse McIllwaine (Huntington, N.Y.) came in to pitch the ninth inning.
