CHARGERS BASEBALL SPLIT WITH UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES
Philadelphia, Pa. (4/22/13) The Dominican College baseball team, currently ranked 10th in the latest NCBWA East Region Poll, split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, University of the Sciences, in games played this afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field. The Devils topped the Chargers, 4-3 in 10 innings in game one while DC took game two, 3-2.

(4/22/13) The Dominican College baseball team, currently ranked 10th in the latest NCBWA East Region Poll, split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, University of the Sciences, in games played this afternoon at Richie Ashburn Field. The Devils topped the Chargers, 4-3 in 10 innings in game one while DC took game two, 3-2.
With the split, Dominican now stands at 21-15 overall and 14-3 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican broke the game open with a run in the fifth inning on the sacrifice bunt from Kenny Harrell (Pompano Beach, Fla.) for the 1-0 lead. USCI countered in the bottom stanza with two runs to go ahead. 2-1.
The Devils added a run in the seventh to go up 3-1, but the Chargers rallied with two runs in the top of the eighth inning as two Devils fielding errors allowed two runs to score to tie the score at 3-3.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, a two out RBI single lifted the Devils to the 4-3 win.
Reliever Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.) took the loss (2-2) in 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit. Starter Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) went 7 innings in the no decision, allowing three runs (none earned) on four hits and six strikeouts.
Game Two: The Devils led 2-0 until Dominican struck for a run in the fourth stanza on the RBI single through the left side off the bat of Tony Blake (Windsor, Conn.)
Dominican went ahead in the fifth inning as shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) hit a one our RBI double to left center and center fielder Kevin Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) later followed with a two out RBI single to left field for the 3-2 lead and eventual victory.
Right-handed pitcher Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) got the complete game victory (6-1), allowing two runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts.
