CHARGERS RALLY TO DEFEAT PACE UNIVERSITY
Yaphank, N.Y. (3/11/14) The Dominican College baseball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host, Pace University, 8-3 this afternoon in a non-conference game played at Baseball Heaven.

With the win, Dominican improves to 4-4 on the season.
Trailing 2-0, the Chargers tied the score in the fourth inning as Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single up the middle and later stole second. He would advance to third on a fielder's choice and score on a throwing error to make the score 2-1. Gabriel Valverde (Plantation, Fla.) who was the one to reach on the fielder's choice moved to second on a walk and went to third as catcher Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) was hit by-a-pitch to load the bases. A balk brought him home and tied the score at 2-2.
Dominican took the lead in the fifth inning with four more runs as back-to-back walks to Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) and Valverde brought in two runs. Alex Lorenzo (Miami Beach, Fla.) followed as he reached on a fielder's choice to plate Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Lopez later scored on a wild pitch to give the Chargers a 6-2 lead.
The Setters got a run back in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-3, but Dominican added a run in the seventh and eighth innings for the 8-3 victory. In the seventh, shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) led off the inning with a home run over the right field fence and the eighth saw Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas) hit an RBI single to left field.
Starter Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.) picked up the win (1-0) in five innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits and seven strikeouts.
Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) pitched three innings, not allowing a run on three hits. Jordan Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) pitched the top of the ninth inning.
