CHARGERS SPLIT WITH NYACK COLLEGE
Pomona, N.Y. (4/23/14) The Dominican College baseball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played today at Provident Bank Park. DC won the first game, 6-5, but lost the night cap, 8-4 to now stand at 17-19 overall and 11-8 in conference play.

(4/23/14) The Dominican College baseball squad split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Warriors of Nyack College in games played today at Provident Bank Park. DC won the first game, 6-5, but lost the night cap, 8-4 to now stand at 17-19 overall and 11-8 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly ball from shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) to plate Jayson Gray (New Rochell, N.Y.).
The Chargers added a run in the third on the RBI single through the right side off the bat of CACC Co-Rookie of the Week, Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) to increase the lead to 2-0. The lead increased to 3-1 in the sixth on the RBI single to centerfield from first basemen Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.).
A run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly ball hit by Gray made the score 4-1. Two more runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly ball from Lopez and a single up-the-middle from Luis Paniagua (Manhattan, N.Y.) gave Dominican a 6-3 lead. Nyack scored two runs in the ninth for the final 6-5 score.
Lopez, Paniagua and Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) each had two hits in the win.
Starter Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.) got the win (4-2) in eight innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out eight Warrior batters.
Jesse McIlwaine (Huntington, N.Y.) picked up his fourth save of the season as he pitched th ninth inning.
Game Two: The Chargers tied game two in the second inning on the solo home run over the right field fence from Lopez to make the score 1-1.
The Warriors scored runs in the third and fourth inning to go ahead 5-1, but Dominican got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth inning as Clark reached on a fielder's choice and allowed a run to come home and Clark would later steal second base and on the throw allowed Martinez to score to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Nyack scored runs in the seventh and eighth innings to increase their lead to 8-3 and Dominican scored a run in the bottom of the ninth on the RBI double from freshman Alex Lorenzo (Miami Beach, Fla.) for the final 8-4 score.
Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) suffered the loss (2-3), allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and six strikeouts in five innings.
