New Castle, Del. (4/26/14) The Wilmington University baseball squad, the top ranked team in the East Region, swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Chargers of Dominican College in games played today at Wilson Field.

New Castle, Del. (4/26/14) The Wilmington University baseball squad, the top ranked team in the East Region, swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Chargers of Dominican College in games played today at Wilson Field.
The Wildcats took the first game by the score of 7-4 and won the night cap in the ninth inning, 4-3.
With the losses, the Chargers are now 18-21 overall and 11-9 in CACC play.
Game One: Wilmington University led 1-0 afer two innings of play, but the Chargers tied the score in the third with an RBI single off the bat of Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.). The 'Cats scored a run in the fifth, but DC countered with a two-run top of the sixth inning as Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas) hit a two-run double to give Dominican the 3-2 edge.
WU tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and re-took the lead with a four-run seventh inning. The Chargers got a run back in the eighth inning on the RBI ground out from Hall for the final 7-4 score.
Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) took the loss (4-3) in seven innings of work.
Game Two: The Wildcats scored first in game two and led 1-0 after four innings. DC tied the score in the sixth inning as Alex Lorenzo (Miami Beach, Fla.) hit a solo home run. WU answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run to take a 2-1 advantage.
DC retied the game in the seventh inning as a run scored on a fielding error, but Wilmington scored a run in the eighth for the 3-2 lead. The Chargers retied the score in the ninth inning on the RBI infield single from Donald Crispyn (Freeport, N.Y.).
A two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave Wilmington the 4-3 win.
Jesse McIlwaine (Huntington, N.Y.) suffered the loss (3-2) in 1 2/3 innings of work.
