BASEBALL ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH A VICTORY OVER UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT
Pomona, N.Y. (5/2/14) The Dominican College baseball team ended the regular season with a non-conference victory over the visiting Purple Knights from the University of Bridgeport in a game played this evening at Provident Bank Park.

The University of Bridgeport struck first with a run in the top of the first, but Dominican charged back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to claim a 3-1 advantage. In the first, Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) produced a single up-the-middle to bring home the first DC run of the game and the second run later scored on a wild pitch. A single off the bat of Luis Paniagua (Manhattan, N.Y.) allowed the third run to come home.
Dominican added a run in the bottom of the second on the sacrifice fly ball to right field hit by Alonso for the 4-1 lead. UB came back with a three-run third inning to tie the score, 4-4.
The Purple Knights gained a 5-4 lead with a run in the top of the fifth.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth Alonso tallied his third and fourth RBIs of the game with a two-out two-run single down the right field line to regain a 6-5 lead for the Chargers. Right fielder Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) later delivered a two-run triple to center field and would score on a wild pitch to bring the lead to 9-5.
DC added two runs in the seventh on bases loaded walks to Alonso and Justin Mixon (Coral Springs, Fla.) which brought home Dominican's 10th and 11th runs of the game.
UB brought home two runs in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 11-7.
Alonso and Leonardo Bravo (Bronx, N.Y.) each had two hits for the Chargers, with Alonso adding a season high five RBIs on the night.
Reliever Andrew Morano (Clintondale, N.Y.) got the win in 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Starter Jordan Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) went 4 1/3 innings in the no decision and Andrew Denis (Miramar, Fla.) came in to pitch the ninth inning.
Tonight marked the final home game for #11 Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas), #13 Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.), #17 Paszek, #30 Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) and #33 Jesse McIlwaine (Huntington, N.Y.).
The Chargers finish the regular season with an overall record of 20-22 and earned the fifth seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Championships. The team will play in a single elimination game at #4 Chestnut Hill College tomorrow at 2pm.
