BASEBALL ELIMINATED FROM CACC TOURNAMENT
New Castle, Del. (5/9/14) The Dominican College baseball team was eliminated after dropping two games today in the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament. The Chargers fell to #2 Felician College, 10-9 in 10 innings and lost to the top-seed, Wilmington University, 2-1 to end their season with an overall record of 22-24.

New Castle, Del. (5/9/14) The Dominican College baseball team was eliminated after dropping two games today in the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Tournament. The Chargers fell to #2 Felician College, 10-9 in 10 innings and lost to the top-seed, Wilmington University, 2-1 to end their season with an overall record of 22-24.
Game One: In the opening game of the day in the winner's bracket, the Chargers found themselves trailing, 4-0 after five innings of play. In the top of the sixth inning, a two out single through the left side off the bat of first basemen Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) brought home the first DC run of the game. Felician countered with three runs in the bottom stanza to increase their lead to 7-1.
Dominican cut into the deficit with three runs in the seventh inning as center fielder Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed a run to score and shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) delivered a two-run two out double to right center field to make the score 7-4. The Chargers tied the game in the eighth inning as CACC Rookie of the Year, Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit a two-run single through the left side and Martinez followed by reaching on a fielder's choice with allowed the tying run to cross the plate and make the score, 7-7.
DC took a 9-7 lead in the top of the ninth inning as Lopez doubled home catcher Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) and second basemen Luis Paniagua (Manhattan, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to give Dominican their first lead, 9-7. Felician tied the game and forced extra innings with a two out, two-run single. A walk-off single in the 10th allowed the winning run to score and give Felician the 10-9 victory.
Lopez had a team leading three hits in the loss, while Gray and Alonso collected two hits a-piece.
Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) took the loss (4-5) in one inning of work.
Game Two: In an elimination game, the #1 Wildcats of Wilmington University scored a run in the first and added a run in the fourth inning for the 2-0 advantage.
The Chargers got on the board in the top half of the seventh as Clark blasted a one out solo home run to right center field to bring DC within a run, 2-1.
In the top of the ninth, Clark hit a one out double down the left field line and went to third on a ground out to put him 90 feet from tying the game with two outs. A strikeout ended the game and eliminated the Chargers from the tournament.
Clark had two hits in the loss with an RBI.
Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and five strikeouts in eight innings.
Wilmington will square off against Felician College tomorrow morning. WU will need to beat the Golden Falcons twice to win the championship, with the first game scheduled for 11am.
