CHARGERS RALLY TO UPEND NEW HAVEN
West Haven, Conn. (3/8/16) The Dominican College baseball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host, the University of New Haven, 3-2, this afternoon in a non-conference game played at Frank Vieira Field.
West Haven, Conn. (3/8/16) The Dominican College baseball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host, the University of New Haven, 3-2, this afternoon in a non-conference game played at Frank Vieira Field.
UNH scored a run in the bottom of the first and third stanzas for the 2-0 lead and would maintain their lead until the top of the fifth inning. Shortstop Joseph Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) drew a one out walk and left fielder Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) followed with the run-scoring double to left field to get DC on the scoreboard. Gray would advance to third on a walk and would come home on the RBI single to left field from centerfielder Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) to tie the game at 2-2.
Dominican scored the go ahead run in their half of the seventh inning as freshman Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) led off the frame with a single to left field and later stole second to put him in scoring position. With two outs, third basemen Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) delivered a single to center field which allowed Decker to come around to score and give the Chargers the 3-2 lead and eventual victory.
Sophomore Thomas Saffiotti (Bergenfield, N.J.) picked up the win in two innings of relief, allowing three hits and striking out one. Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) recorded his second save of the season after pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
With the win, Dominican improves to 3-3 on the season.
The Chargers are back in non-conference action on Friday as they travel to Pace University.
