Cary, N.C. (3/19/16) The Dominican College baseball team split two games played at the USA Baseball National Training Center. Dominican fell in the opening game to #9 Franklin Pierce University, 9-6 and shut out Dowling College, 7-0.

Cary, N.C. (3/19/16) The Dominican College baseball team split two games played at the USA Baseball National Training Center. Dominican fell in the opening game to #9 Franklin Pierce University, 9-6 and shut out Dowling College, 7-0.
With the split the team now stands at 6-8 overall on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the top of the third when left fielder Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) doubled home Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) for the 1-0 lead. The Ravens countered with three runs in their half of the third to go up, 3-1.
Dominican answered right back with two runs in the fourth as catcher Leonardo Bravo (Bronx, N.Y.) had an RBI double and first basemen Jonel Ozuna (New York, N.Y.) had a run-scoring groundout to knot the score at 3-3.
FPU regained a two-run lead in the fourth, but DC quickly re-tied the score in the fifth as Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) reached on an error that allowed a run to score and center fielder Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
The Ravens put two runs on the board in the seventh and eighth innings to pull ahead 9-5. Dominican added a run in the ninth on a single by Soto for the final 9-6 score.
Bernacet and Soto each had three hits in the game, while Soto recorded three RBIs and Bernacet scored two runs.
Franklin Miller (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) suffered the loss in five innings of relief, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits and eight strikeouts.
Game Two: Bernacet brought home the first run of the night cap on a double and later scored on a passed ball to give the Chargers the 2-0 lead at the end of two innings.
The team added three runs in the sixth on a Dowling error, a stolen base and a single to right field off the bat of Ozuna to increase the lead to 5-0.
The final two runs came in the seventh on back-to-back run scoring singles singles from Decker and Soto for the final 7-0 victory.
Soto finished with a team leading four hits.
Decker had three hits and scored two runs.
Bernacet, Ozuna and Franzone all finished with two hits, while Bernacet scored two runs.
Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) picked up the win in seven innings of work, allowing just one hit and collecting five strikeouts in the shut out win.
Dominican will return to action tomorrow against Pace University.
