#6 CHARGERS UPEND #3 WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

(5/8/16) The #6 Dominican College baseball team defeated the #3 Wilmington University Wildcats, 3-1, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament play-in game played at Wilson Field. With the win, the Chargers advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament slated to begin this coming Thursday.

The Chargers struck for the three runs in the top of the first stanza as senior first basemen Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) got things going with a run-scoring single to left field to bring home Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.). Two batters later designated hitter Jonel Ozuna (New York, N.Y.) doubled home Lopez and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) to extend the DC lead to 3-0.
Dominican would maintain the 3-0 advantage until the bottom of the eighth inning when the 'Cats struck for a run on a throwing error.
DC had three hits on the day with Lopez and Ozuna each getting a hit and Soto collecting the other. Ozuna finished with two RBIs.
Junior Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) got the complete game victory (6-3), allowing one run (not earned) on four hits and four strikeouts.
With the win, Dominican improves to 18-27 on the season.
The Chargers will now travel back to Wilmington University, the host site of the 2016 CACC Baseball Championships, this coming Thursday to begin the double elimination portion of the tournament.
