DOMINICAN'S POPIEL EARNS NCBWA EAST REGION PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS

(4/18/17) Dominican College's Nathanial Popiel has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Pitcher of the Week for games taking place from April 11 through April 16th. Pace University outfielder John Kukura was named the East Region Hitter of the Week.

(4/18/17) Dominican College's Nathanial Popiel has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Pitcher of the Week for games taking place from April 11 through April 16th. Pace University outfielder John Kukura was named the East Region Hitter of the Week.
Popiel, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week, fired a complete game shutout last week defeating Nyack, 4-0. In the victory, he fanned 11 batters, allowed eight hits and walked only two leading the Chargers' to their second shutout of the season when they captured the first game of last Wednesday's doubleheader.
The Northeast 10 Conference Player of the Week, Kukura batted .550 with an on-base percentage of .679 and slugging percentage of .800 in a 4-1 week. He scored eight runs, knocked in four, and walked eight times. He went 2-2 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to beat Dominican. John was 4-6 with three runs, and a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth in Wednesday's 11-inning affair against New Haven. He went 3-7 with two runs in Friday's 15-inning win over American International College. He continued his hot streak on Saturday by going 2-for-3 in Game 1 against AIC.
