BASEBALL SPLITS WITH BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/18/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in games played this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. The Bears took the opener, 5-4, in ten innings, while the Chargers won the second game, 4-1.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/18/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in games played this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park. The Bears took the opener, 5-4, in ten innings, while the Chargers won the second game, 4-1.
With the split, the Chargers now stand at 13-19 overall and 8-8 in conference play.
Game One: Bloomfield lead 2-0 after four innings, but Dominican rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 edge. With two outs, left fielder Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring single to left field and centerfielder Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with a two-run blast to left field to give them the lead.
The Bears regained the lead in the seventh with two runs, but DC countered in the bottom half of the frame on the run-scoring double to right field off the bat of Gray to re-tie the score, 4-4 and eventual force extra innings.
A two-out RBI double off the bat of the Bloomfield right fielder gave them the 5-4 lead and win.
Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) led the team with four hits.
Gray and Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.) both had three hits, while Gray finished with two RBIs.
Reliever Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) suffered the loss (4-5) in three innings of work, allowing one run on two hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two: The Bears brought home a run in the top of the first stanza for the early 1-0 lead. Dominican countered with two runs in the second on an error and a sacrifice fly ball of the bat of Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) to put the Chargers up, 2-1.
The Chargers added two more runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly ball from Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) and Franzone followed with a run-scoring single to right field to increase the lead to 4-1.
Franzone finished the game with two hits and two runs batted in.
CACC and NCBWA Pitcher of the Week, Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) improved to 3-3 on the season with the complete-game win, allowing one run (not earned) on two hits and seven strikeouts.
