CHARGERS TAKE ONE FROM LIGHTNING

(4/29/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in games played this afternoon at the Palisades Credit Union Park. DC took the opener, 5-3, but fell in the night cap, 10-7.

(4/29/17) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in games played this afternoon at the Palisades Credit Union Park. DC took the opener, 5-3, but fell in the night cap, 10-7.
Game One: DC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as first basemen Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) hit an RBI single up-the-middle.
GBC tied the game in the second, but the Chargers added two runs in the third on the two-run home run off the bat of center fielder Arbely Soto (Bronx, N.Y.) and added a run in the fourth on the run-scoring ground out from Brandon Simone (Bayside, N.Y.) to make the score 4-1.
The Lightning added two more runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-3, but DC regained a two-run advantage in the seventh on the RBI single to left field from second basemen Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) for the 5-3 lead and eventual win.
Soto finished with three hits and two RBIs and two runs in the game.
Bartolomei finished with two hits.
John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) improved to 4-2 on the season, after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.
Nicholas Galese (Totowa, N.J.) picked up his second save and collected four strikeouts.
Game Two: Dominican tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the first as Bartolomei singled home two runs and Decker later followed with an RBI double to left center field.
GBC regained a two-run lead in the second, but the Chargers rallied with four runs in their half of the second to take a 7-5 lead. Max Franzone (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch and Bartolomei followed with an RBI ground out. Decker then produced a run-scoring triple to right center field and Tyler Malia (Delran, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice to allow a run to score.
The Lightning scored two runs in the fifth and added three more in the sixth to take a 10-7 lead and eventual win.
Reliever Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla.) took the loss (2-3) in 1/3 innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits.
Following the split, the Chargers now stand at 17-24 overall and 11-11 in CACC play.
