CHARGERS WIN ON DAY TWO OF NCAA EAST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

(5/19/17) The seventh-seeded Dominican College baseball team won an elimination game against #6 Southern Connecticut State University, 5-3, in the fourth game of the 2017 NCAA Division II Baseball East Regional Tournament, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University on Penmen Field.

With the win, the Chargers remain in the tournament and will take on the loser of today's #4 LIU Post/#1 Southern New Hampshire University game tomorrow morning at 11am. The Owls are eliminated from tournament play following the loss.
Dominican (22-28) scored in the top of the second when, after back-to-back singles and a sacrifice bunt, Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) lifted a sac fly to foul territory in right field to bring in the game's first run.
The Owls tied the contest in the third as Jim Palmer delievered a two out single up-the-middle that brought home a run and knotted the game, 1-all.
A Southern Connecticut error allowed DC to grab the 2-1 lead in the seventh as Joseph Libio's (Tamarac, Fla.) two-out infield single to short plated an unearned run.
The Chargers added to its lead in the eighth on three straight two-out singles, including Jordan Bernacet's (Schenectady, N.Y.) sharp grounder to first that took a vicious hop off the first baseman to bring home Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.Y.), who began the rally with a single down the left field line.
DC used another two-out hit in the ninth, this one an RBI double to the gap in right-center off the bat of Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.), to widened the gap before a dropped fly ball brought in another run to make the score, 5-1.
The Owls made it interesting in the ninth after Griffin Garabedian swatted a two-run homer to right, but that was as close as Southern Connecticut would make it.
Brett Schneider (Coral Springs, Fla) earned the complete-game win as he allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out nine to improve to 4-3 on the season.
Bartolomei (walk, two runs), Libio (RBI, run) and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) were each 2-for-4 for Dominican.
Bernacet finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, with Gray going 1-for-4 with an RBI and run.
