LATE RALLY NOT ENOUGH AS CHARGERS FALL TO LIONS

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (2/25/18) The Chargers continued their opening weekend to the 2018 season in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a non-conference game against Molloy College. The Chargers dropped their first three games so far over the weekend and were looking for their first win of the season in the final game of the opening weekend.
Freshman pitcher Christopher Catoire (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took the hill for the Chargers. The scoring started in the top of the first inning when the Lions took an early 1-0 lead over the Chargers. Jacob McCarthy drove in the first run on an RBI ground out. The score remained the same for the next couple of innings.
The Lions extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Jake Saltzman earned an RBI. In the top of the sixth inning, the Lions scored again to extend their lead out to 3-0 over the Chargers when Saltzman doubled to earn his second RBI of the game. The Chargers were shut out for the first seven innings of the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Chargers plated their first run of the game when Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) drove in a run to cut the Lions lead to 3-1. Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) made it a one run game after driving in the Chargers' second run of the game. The Chargers went into the final inning down a run seeking the opportunity to tie the game before game's end.
The Lions' Shawn Klotsche earned his second save of the season as he held the Chargers in the ninth for a final of 3-2. The Lion's starting pitcher recorded eight strikeouts and pitched seven innings to earn his second win of the season.
The Chargers, 0-4, are still in search of their first win of the season. Rotella went two for four with an RBI as the only Charger to record multiple hits. The Lions improved to 3-4 with the win and pounded out twelve hits as a team.
The Chargers will look to rebound and earn their first win of the season when they play Mount Olive on Tuesday February 27th at 2:30 PM.
