ROTELLI HOMERS AND BARTOLOMEI EARNS THREE HITS IN LOSS TO MOUNT OLIVE

Mt. Olive, N.C. (2/27/18) The Dominican College baseball team played the University of Mount Olive on Tuesday still in search of their first win of the 2018 season. Dominican has dropped their first four games of the season so far in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and were looking to play a strong game against the Trojans.
The Trojans struck first in the first inning by recording two runs in the opening frame against Charger's sophomore pitcher Nicholas Galese (Totowa, N,J.). Drew Ellis drove in both runs for the Trojans on a single through the middle.
Both teams went scoreless for four straight innings until the Chargers got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N,J.) smacked a home run to right field to get his team on the board and cut the deficit to 2-1. Mount Olive answered in the bottom half of the sixth inning with two more runs to extend their lead to 4-1. Jose Lopez drove in the first run of the inning by reaching on a fielder's choice. Justin Lee followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-1.
The Trojans added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with four more runs to extend out to an 8-1 lead over the Chargers. Drew Ellis drove in two more runs for a team's best fourth RBI of the game. The Trojans added two more runs in the inning and went into the eighth inning leading by a score of 8-1.
The Chargers struck back in the top of the eighth inning with three runs to cut the Trojan's lead to four. Rotelli and Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) both recorded RBI hits in the eighth inning and the Chargers added one more run to cut the deficit to 8-4.
The Trojans did not score in the eighth and the score remained 8-4 in the ninth and final inning. The Trojans shut the Chargers out in the ninth inning to secure the 8-4 win to improve to 9-3 on the season. Bartolomei went 3 for 4 in the loss and had one RBI while Rotelli went 2 for 4 and recorded two RBI's including the home run in the sixth.
Both teams recorded nine hits in the game. Galese pitched five innings and struck out three batters while falling to 0-1 on the season. German Reyes earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season while recording four strike outs.
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday February 28th when they take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans for the second time in two days at 2:30 PM.
