Mt. Olive, N.C. (2/28/18) The Chargers played the Trojans from the University of Mount Olive for the second straight day still in search of their first win of the season. Wednesday's game marks the final game of the February schedule for the Chargers and the final game of the first trip for the Chargers at the beginning of the season.
The Trojans got off to a fast start over the Chargers again by scoring the game's first runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Trojans started their scoring with Nate Estes driving in the game's first run with an RBI single. Drew Ellis followed with an RBI single to give the Trojans a 2-0 and Justin Carroll doubled in Ellis for a 3-0 lead. Gunner Tolston finished the scoring in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly which completed the four-run first inning for the Trojans.
Dominican scratched a run in the third inning when Joe Rotelli (Morganville, NJ..) singled in the Chargers first run of the game to cut the deficit to 4-1. In the top of the fourth inning, the Chargers tied the game on back to back hits from Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) with a two RBI single to right center field to tie the game.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Trojans regained the lead by scoring five straight runs in the inning. The Trojans held a 9-4 lead heading into the sixth inning. The Chargers earned a run back in the sixth inning when the Chargers capitalized on the Trojans only error of the game. The Trojans added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Nate Estes drove in his second RBI of the game. The Trojans extended their lead to 11-5 later in the inning.
The Chargers trailed by six runs heading into the ninth and final inning. The Chargers started a rally in the final inning when they loaded the bases with just one out. Brian Garcia (Miami, Fla.) walked for the first run of the inning and Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) followed by reaching on a fielder's choice to make the deficit 11-7.
Barolomei doubled which drove in two more runs for the Chargers and cut the lead to 11-9 for the Charger's first baseman's second and third RBIs of the game. Decker singled in his third RBI of the game which brought the Chargers within one run of the Trojans. The Chargers bid for a comeback victory was stopped short as the final out was recorded before the Chargers could tie the game. Dominican fell to 0-6 in the loss and the Trojans improved to 10-3.
The Chargers will be back in action on Sunday March 4th when they visit Pace University for an afternoon double header at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM as they look to earn their first win of the season.
