Pleasantville, N.Y. (3/4/18) The Chargers Baseball team fell in both games of a double header on Sunday to the Pace University Setters. The Chargers, 0-8 (0-0 CACC) are still in search of their first win of the 2018 season.
Game One: Pace scored their first two runs of the game on junior pitcher John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) by scratching a run in the second and third innings. The Setters blew the game open with five runs in the seventh inning and added one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cruise to an 8-0 victory. The Setters pounded out 15 hits in the win over the Chargers.
Broderick pitched five innings for the Chargers and kept his team in the game for most of the time by only giving up the first two Setter's runs. Pace University pitcher Dan Wirchansky earned his first win on the season as well as pitching a perfect game for the Setters. Wirchansky's pitching line read: nine innings pitched, zero hits, zero runs, zero earned runs, zero walks, 16 strikeouts, and faced 27 batters. Wirchansky threw 103 pitches in a perfect outing for the Setters.
Game Two: In the second game, Christopher Catoire (Brooklyn, NY) took the mound for the Chargers in hopes to help his team earn their first win. The Setters scored first in the first inning for an early 1-0 lead. The Chargers tied the game at 1-1 when Will Dawson (Cypress, TX) tripled home a run in the top of the second inning. The Setters took the lead back over the Chargers when Paul Piccolino drilled a two-run home run to left field to make the score 3-1.
The Chargers earned a run in the fourth inning to cut the Setter's lead to 3-2. The Setters added to their lead in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-2 and eventually held onto the lead for the duration of the game. The Setters completed the sweep over the Chargers with the 4-2 win to improve their record to 2-0.
The Chargers will have the rest of the week off until Friday March 9th when they travel down to Cary, North Carolina for five games in three days. The Chargers will be looking to earn their first win in the weekend trip to N.C. The Chargers will then return home after the trip to play their first home games of the season and their first conference games of the season.
The Chargers' first game on Friday will be against the College of St. Rose at 1:00 PM and they will finish day one of the trip with Findlay at 4:30 PM.
