Brookville, N.Y. (3/17/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with host, LIU Post, in games played today at the LIU Post Baseball Field. Dominican won the first game, 10-8, while the Pioneers took home a 5-0 win in game two.

Brookville, N.Y. (3/17/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with host, LIU Post, in games played today at the LIU Post Baseball Field. Dominican won the first game, 10-8, while the Pioneers took home a 5-0 win in game two.
With the split, the Chargers are now 1-13 on the season.
Game One: The Chargers rallied from a 6-3 deficit by scoring four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to upend the Pioneers, 10-8. Freshman Dino Ferrarese (Latham, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate win (1-1) by pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits.
Dominican trailed 4-0 after two innings, but got on the board in the third as Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) hit a double to left center and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. He came home on a sacrifice fly ball hit to right field off the bat of designated hitter Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.). DC added two more runs in the fourth as Decker and junior Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) produced back-to-back run-scoring singles to make the score 5-3.
The Charger offense knocked in four runs in their half of the sixth as Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.), Decker and Bartolomei recorded three consecutive hits that brought home runners and later a two hit single off the bat of Will Dawson (Cypress, Texas) allowed the fourth Dominican run of the inning to come home and give DC the 7-6 edge.
LIU Post countered with a one in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score, 7-7, but the Chargers added three more runs in the seventh as Rotelli doubled home two runs and right fielder Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a RBI sibgle to right field to regain the 10-7 advantage. The Pioneers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh for the final 10-8 DC victory.
Starter John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) went 4 1/3 innings in the no decision, allowing six runs on nine hits and three strikeouts.
Decker and Bartolomei both recorded three hits and two RBIs in the game, while Rotelli finished with a team leading three RBIs.
Game Two: The Pioneers shut out Dominican 5-0 in the night cap, outhitting the Chargers 9-2.
LIU Post scored a run in the first, third and fifth frames, while adding two more in the sixth.
Bartolomei and Dawson recorded the Charger hits.
Senior Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) took the loss (0-3) in four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two strikeouts.
