New Haven, Conn. (3/20/18) The Dominican College baseball team fell to the University of New Haven in an out of conference game on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 6-5. The Chargers earned their first win of the season on Saturday and were looking to build on the win. New Haven improved to 15-0 on the season with a comeback victory over the Chargers.
Dominican got off to a quick start in the top of the first inning with the game's first run when Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.) singled in teammate Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) who reached on a walk. New Haven tied the game in the bottom of the third inning at 1-1.
The Chargers scratched across three runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead 4-1. New Haven answered with a run after Joe Caico hit an RBI triple to cut the Chargers lead to 4-3. Andrew Garcia recorded a double to drive in Caico to tie the game at 4-4. Matt Chamberlain cracked a triple to drive in two more runs to give his team their first lead of the game to cap off a four-run inning.
The Chargers cut the deficit back to one run when they scratched a run in the eighth inning to make the score 6-5. The game would eventually end 6-5 as the Chargers dropped to 1-14 on the season.
