BASEBALL SWEEPS COUGARS
Caldwell, N.J. (3/28/18) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Caldwell University in games played this afternoon at Kiwanis Field. The Chargers won the first game, 4-3 and took the nightcap, 8-5.

With the sweep, Dominican improves to 4-15 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Game One: DC got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the first inning as left fielder Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.) produced a two-run two out double down the left field line. Second basemen Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) followed with a run-scoring single to right-center field for the 3-0 lead.
The Chargers added a run in the sixth frame as Rotella picked up his second RBI on a double to right center field to bring home Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) to increase the lead to 4-0. Caldwell scored three runs on a single to left field, a single to right-center field and another single to left field to cut the lead to 4-3.
Rotella finished with two hits and two RBIs. Rotelli also finished with two RBIs, while Joseph Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) finished with two hits.
Junior John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) threw the complete game victory (1-2), allowing three runs on six hits and nine strikeouts.
Game Two: The Charger offense once again produced early as they scored three runs in the first, four in the second inning and added one in the third for the 8-0 lead. In the first, centerfielder Shota Barbeau (Atlanta, Ga.) stole home and two batters later Rotella hit a run-scoring single to left field. Rightfielder Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) brought Bartolomei home with a sacrifice fly ball hit to right field to take a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, left fielder Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) delivered a RBI single up-the-middle and Barbeau would later steal home again. Tavarez scored on a balk and Rotelli would pick up an RBI with a single to right field.
Catcher Tyler Malia (Delran, N.J.) came home on a balk in the third stanza for the 8-0 advantage.
Caldwell scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two more in the fifth for the final 8-5 score.
Bartolomei finished with three hits in the game, while Rotelli and Tavarez each had two hits in the win.
Senior Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) picked up the win (1-0) in five innings of work, allowing five runs on seven hits and five strikeouts.
Ryan Siuta (Pomona, N.Y.) eraned his first save of the season in two innings, not allowing a hit and recording one strikeout.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow as they host Felician University in a CACC North Division double-header scheduled to begin at 11:30am at Palisades Credit Union Park.
