BASEBALL TAKES ONE FROM CLIPPERS
Bronxville, N.Y. (4/8/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host Concordia College in games played today at Clipper Baseball Field. The Clippers took the opener, 5-1, while the Charger bats came alive to win the second game, 11-4.

Bronxville, N.Y. (4/8/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host Concordia College in games played today at Clipper Baseball Field. The Clippers took the opener, 5-1, while the Charger bats came alive to win the second game, 11-4.
With the split, Dominican is now 7-18 overall and 6-3 in CACC play.
Game One: Concordia scored a run in the first and four in the second inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead. Dominican got on the scoreboard in the sixth as left fielder Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to center field to bring home Shota Barbeau (Atlanta, Ga.) to make the score 5-1.
Starter Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) suffered the loss (1-4) in 1 2/3 innings of work, allowing five runs on two hits.
Tavarez finished with two hits in the loss.
Game Two: Game two was scoreless until the third frame when the Charger offense scored a run on the single to left field off the bat of shortstop Joseph Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) for the 1-0 advantage. Concordia responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but Dominican regained the 2-1 edge in the fourth as Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) was able to reach base on an error which allowed a run to score.
The Clippers countered again in the fourth to re-tie the score, 2-2. In the fifth, Dominican added six more runs to rebuild an 8-2 lead. Sophomore Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) delivered an RBI double to left field and designated hitter Joseph Rotelli hit a grand slam over the left center field fence. Second basemen Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) hit a two out run-scoring single through the left side for the 8-2 lead.
Concordia got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 8-4, but the Charger offense added three more runs in the sixth to make the score 11-4. In the sixth inning, junior Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score and Rotelli followed with a two-run double to left center field.
Rotelli finished with two hits and a career high six RBIs. Four other Chargers had two hits in the win.
Reliever Christopher Catoire (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up the win (2-4) in 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits and three strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they take the short road trip to St. Thomas Aquinas College.
