Pomona, N.Y. (4/13/18) The Chargers hosted the Clippers of Concordia College in a CACC doubleheader played at Palisades Credit Union Park. The Clippers took both games of the doubleheader by a score of 7-3 and 9-4. The Chargers dropped to 10-20 (8-5 CACC) on the season and the Clippers improved to 13-14 (9-5 CACC) after the two wins.
Game One: Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings. Dominican struck first in the third inning when they scratched a run across to take a 1-0 lead. The Clippers quickly answered in the next half inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Clippers added their third run of the game when Tyler Epple recorded an RBI double to extend the lead. The Chargers tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) hit a two-run homerun to get the Chargers back in the game. The game remained tied until the top of the eighth inning when the Clippers took the lead back and recorded four runs total for a 7-3 lead.
The score remained 7-3 for the remainder of the game and the Clippers closed out the 7-3 win. John Wall earned the win for the Clippers to improve to 4-2. Maurizio Devita entered the game in relief for two innings.
Game Two: The Clippers quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Joseph Impeduglia, Tyler Epple, and Hermes Abreu recorded an RBI each. The Chargers answered in the bottom of the first inning when Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) recorded an RBI single to get the Chargers on the board. Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.) cut the deficit to 3-2 as he reached on a fielder's choice.
Hermes Abreu singled in his second RBI of the game to extend the Clipper lead to 4-2. The Clippers added two more runs in the fourth inning when Impeduglia recorded a tow RBI single for a 6-2 lead.
The Chargers cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) recorded an RBI single. The Clippers extended their lead to 9-3 in the seventh inning with three more runs. Bartolomei drove in his second RBI of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly.
The Clippers secured the 9-4 win and completed the sweep.
The Chargers will be back in action when they travel to Chestnut Hill College for a CACC doubleheader. Game one will begin at 11:00 AM and game two will start at 2:00 PM.
