Pomona, N.Y. (4/17/18) The Chargers split a conference doubleheader with the Warriors of Nyack College. The Chargers took game one by a score of 5-2 and dropped game two by a score of 12-5. With the split of both games, the Chargers are now 11-23 (9-8 CACC).
Game One: Corey Pic (Montvale, NJ) took the mound for the Chargers in game one. Zachary Martirano took the mound for the Warriors. Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings. The Chargers struck first in the top of the third inning when Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, NJ) singled in the first run of the game.
The Warriors tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Luke Kelly hit an RBI double. Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, NY) helped the Chargers regain the lead with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning. The Chargers extended their lead to 5-1 when Bartolomei singled in two more RBI's to give him three for the game.
Austin Fischer added a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. Nicholas Galese (Totowa, NJ) entered the game in relief and shut the Warriors down to secure the win. Pic threw five strong innings only allowing one run.
Game Two: The Chargers quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Joe Rotelli (Morganville, NJ) recorded two RBI's in the inning. Brian Rotella (Stony Point, NY), Joshua Colon (Bronx, NY), and Joseph Libio (Tamarac, FL) drove in an RBI each in the opening inning.
The Warriors answered quickly by posting seven runs in the bottom half of the first inning to jump out to a 7-5 lead. The Warriors added two more runs in the third inning and three more runs in the fourth inning. Nyack never lost the lead and cruised to a 12-5 victory.
Gabriel Vasquez led the Warriors with three hits and four RBI's in the win. Isaak Bustamante added three RBI's. Hakim Williams started the game and settled in to earn the win to improve his personal record to 3-2.
The Chargers will be back in action on Friday April 20th when they host the Bloomfield College Bears for a conference doubleheader. The doubleheader will be played at Palisades Credit Union Park with game one scheduled for 3:00 PM and game two is set for 6:00 PM.
