BASEBALL WINS ONE OF TWO AGAINST BEARS
Pomona, N.Y. (4/20/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in games played this afternoon at the Palisades Credit Union Park. Dominican won the first game, 5-3, but fell in the nightcap 8-6.

(4/20/18) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College in games played this afternoon at the Palisades Credit Union Park. Dominican won the first game, 5-3, but fell in the nightcap 8-6.
Game One: Dominican (12-24, 11-8 CACC) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as junior third basemen Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field which allowed Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) to come home to score. The Bears got a run back in the fourth to re-tie the game, but the Chargers re-took the lead in the fifth as a sacrifice fly ball to right field from Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) allowed a run to score and two batters later junior Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.) hit a ball to center field which allowed another run to score and give DC the 3-1 edge.
The Chargers added two more runs in the sixth as Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) hit an in the park two-run home run to center field which allowed Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) also to come home and extend the lead to 5-1.
A Bear run in the seventh and ninth innings led to the Chargers, 5-3, victory.
Bowen finished with two hits, while Colon had two RBIs.
Starter Dino Ferrarese (Latham, N.Y.) got the win (2-1) in six innings of work, allowing one run on one hit and six strikeouts. Kraigen Rasalla (Scranton, Pa.) recorded his first save of the season after pitching the ninth.
Game Two: The Bears scored two runs to start off the game with a 2-0 lead. Dominican cut the deficit to a run in the bottom half of the first on the RBI groundout from Bartolomei.
Bloomfield added a run in the second and tacked on three more in the fourth to increase their lead to 6-1. In the bottom of the fourth, Rotelli hit an RBI groundout to make the score 6-2, but Bloomfield countered in the fifth with two runs to extend the lead to 8-2. The Chargers brought home a run in their half of the fifth on a fielder's choice and added two more in the sixth on a wild pitch and a run-scoring single from Decker. A fielder's choice in the seventh allowed the final run of the game to come home and gave Bloomfield the 8-6 win.
John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) suffered the loss (3-4) in three and two thirds innings of work.
The Chargers are scheduled to return to action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Goldey-Beacom College.
