Pomona, N.Y. (5/2/18) The Chargers ended the 2018 season regular season on high note with a sweep over the Cougars of Caldwell University. The Chargers took game one by a score of 9-1 and followed with a 5-1 lead in game two. The Chargers end the season with a record of 19-30 (17-15 CACC).
Game One: Jaden Diaz-Lambert (Erial, NJ) took the mound for the Chargers and earned the win with five innings pitched and recorded eight strikeouts. With the win, Diaz-Lambert improved his record to 1-1 on the season. The Chargers jumped out to a 6-0 lead when they scored the game's first six runs in the third inning.
The Cougars got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth inning when Justin Jeannette earned an RBI walk. The Chargers extended their lead in the sixth inning and one more run in the eighth inning.
Stephen Castro (Bayside, NY) entered the game in relief for the Chargers and helped secure the win with four innings pitched. Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, NJ) recorded two hits and drove in four RBI's in the win. Joshua Colon (Bronx, NY) had three hits and one RBI for the Chargers. Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.), Tyler Malia (Delran, NJ), and Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, NY) also contributed RBI's in the win.
Game Two: Nathaniel Popiel (Mechanicville, NY) took the mound in game two for the Chargers. Popiel pitched a complete game and struck out eleven batters in the win. The Chargers scored a run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-0 lead over the Cougars.
Dominican added their fifth run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-0. The Cougars scored a run in the seventh inning to make the score 5-1 but the Chargers closed out the 5-1 win in game two.
Justin Decker (Rotterdam, NY) had two hits in the win while Brian Rotella (Stony Point, NY) and Max Chidsey recorded one RBI each in the win.
The Chargers ended the season with a record of 19-30 (17-15 CACC) and finished fourth in the CACC north division standings. Round one of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament is scheduled to start Saturday, May 5th.
