CHARGERS ADVANCE IN 2018 CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS AS THEY DOWN CHESTNUT HILL
Pomona, N.Y. (5/5/18) The Chargers hosted the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College on Saturday for the play-in game of the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Championships.
Pomona, N.Y. (5/5/18) The Chargers hosted the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College on Saturday for the play-in game of the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Championships. The Chargers, now 20-30 on the season, who finished as the second seed in the north division standings defeated the south division's third-seeded Griffins by a score of 15-2.
With the win, the Chargers move on to the double-elimination portion of the tournament which will begin on Thursday, May 10th.
Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) earned the win and improved his record on the 2018 season to 3-3. Pic pitched six innings of one-run ball and recorded five strikeouts. John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) and Arben Becaj (Brooklyn, N.Y.) entered the game in relief to help the Chargers secure the win.
The Chargers offense didn't waste any time by jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead in the first two innings. Dominican scored seven runs in the opening inning and added two more runs in the second inning. Dominican added a run in the third inning and another in the fifth inning for the 11-0 lead.
The Griffins ended the Chargers' scoring run by getting on the board in the sixth inning when Alec Craig homered. The Griffins added their second run of the game in the seventh inning when Matthew Owens homered.
The Chargers extended their lead to 15-2 with four runs in the eighth inning. The Chargers secured the 15-2 win and earned the right to move on to the double-elimination portion of the conference tournament.
As a team, the Chargers pounded 22 hits in route to the victory. Up and down the line-up, everyone recorded at least one hit.
Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the way by going 4 for 6 and drove in three RBIs in the win. Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) went 3 for 4 and recorded three RBIs. Joseph Libio (Tamarac, Fla.) had two hits and two RBI's. Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.), Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.), and Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) each recorded an RBI and three hits in the win. Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas), Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), and Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) also recorded RBIs in the win.
The 2018 CACC Baseball Championships will continue on Thursday, May 10th where they Chargers will take on Felician University, the tournament's overall top seed, at 12pm. The tournament will be held at Municipal Stadium and hosted by Post University.
