BASEBALL WRAPS UP AT RIPKEN EXPERIENCE WITH A WIN OVER BRIDGEPORT

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (2/24/19) The Dominican College baseball team pounded 10 hits in a 7-6 win over the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. The Chargers ended the weekend at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC with the win to improve to 2-2 overall.
DC scored the first seven runs of the game. The Chargers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly from Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), a double steal by Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.), and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.), and an RBI single by Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.).
Billy Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) drove in two runs in the second inning to extend the Charger lead to 5-0. Bartolomei made it 7-0 after his double drove in two more RBI's in the fifth inning.
Trailing 7-0 in the seventh inning, the Purple Knights got on the board when Bobby Pollock doubled in two runs and Alex Martinez singled in a run to make the deficit 7-3.
In the eighth inning, the Purple Knights cut the deficit to one run after a two-RBI triple by Alex Rauso who scored later on a sacrifice fly by Vincent DeRubeis.
The Purple Knights were unable to complete the comeback and fell short by a score of 7-6 to the Chargers.
Jordyn Schwark (Kingston, N.Y.) struck out six batters in five innings pitched to earn his first win of the season for the Chargers. Kyle Morgan (Boca Raton, Fla.) secured the win for DC with his first save on the season.
Bartolomei finished with three RBI's and one hit. Justin Decker scored three runs and also recorded one hit. Billy Rotella and Jordan Bernacet each recorded two hits and Rotella added two RBI's while Bernacet drove in one RBI.
Alex Rauso led the Purple Knights with three hits, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Bobby Pollock also added two hits and two RBI's for the Purple Knights. DeRubeis and Martinez each added one RBI.
The Chargers will be back in action when they travel to Molloy College on Saturday, March 2nd for a non-conference game at 12:00 PM.
