CHARGERS FALL TO NEW HAVEN

Cary, N.C. (3/8/19) The Chargers traveled to Cary, North Carolina and met with a non-conference opponent the University of New Haven on Friday. DC fell to UNH by a score of 9-1 in the game and drops their overall record to 2-3. UNH improved to 4-1.
UNH recorded 11 hits in the win with four different hitters in the lineup recording multiple hits. Billy Huber, Matt Chamberlain, Pj Contreras, and Dylan Grzenda each recorded multiple hits. Chamberlain led the team in RBI's with three and also drew two walks.
Huber, Contreras, Grzenda, and James Meyers each recorded one RBI. Izaiya Mestre earned the win for New Haven to improve his personal record to 2-0 on the season and added five strikeouts. Chris Leindecker pitched three innings in relief and recorded five strikeouts. Ben Shadeck entered in the final inning to secure the win.
For DC, their only run was scored when Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) drove in the run on a groundout in the fifth inning. Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.), Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.), Joe Rotelli (Morganville, N.J.), Patrick Bateman (Pearl River, N.Y.), and Brian Rotella (Stony Point, N.Y.) each recorded a hit for the Chargers.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings until the fourth when Matt Chamberlain drove in two runs on his first of two triples and later scored on P.j. Contreras' double to make it 3-0. DC got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.
UNH added four more runs in the sixth inning and then one run in the seventh and eighth innings to eventually go on and close out the 9-1 victory.
DC will be back in action tomorrow when they face Cedarville at 2:00 PM.
