Pomona, N.Y. (4/24/19) The Dominican College baseball team split a conference doubleheader with the Nyack College Warriors. The Chargers fell to the Warriors in game one by a score of 14-0 and bounced back in game two to win 11-3.

After the split, the Chargers are now 22-20 (15-12 CACC) on the season and the Warriors are now 15-17-1 (11-17 CACC).

Game One: The Chargers were shutout in game one by a score of 14-0. The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Warriors used a big seven-run rally in the fifth inning to extend to a 9-0 lead. Nyack added one run in the sixth inning and two runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings on their way to the 14-0 win in game one.

Yoni Rodriguez had three RBI in the win including a triple. Austin Fischer finished with two hits and two RBI in the win. Herman Alvarado drove in two runs and recorded a triple. Alec Petterson, Matthew Johnson, Gabriel Vasquez, and Brandon Rivera all added two hits each.

David Gauthier earned his sixth win of the season and improved to 6-3 on the year. Gauthier pitched a strong eight innings and recorded seven strikeouts. David De Genaro entered the game in relief to finish the game.

For the Chargers, Kennee Torres (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Elijah Tavarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) each recorded two hits in the loss. Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) finished the game with a double. Anthony Bartolomei (Oakhurst, N.J.), Jordan Bernacet (Schenectady, N.Y.), and Brett Karcher-Brown (Cypress, Texas) each finished the game with one hit.

Game Two: The Chargers used a big third inning in game two which helped propel them to the 11-3 victory. The Chargers outhit the Warriors 18-6 in the win.

Kennee Torres, Brian Sanders, and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) each had three hits. Anthony Bartolomei, Benjamin Meza (Miami, Fla.), and Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) each recorded two hits for the Chargers.

Torres drove in three runs including a homer while Bartolomei, Bernacet, and Colon each drove in two runs. Meza and Tavarez each drove in one run.

Brandon Mology (Wall Township, N.J.) took the mound for the Chargers and earned the win on five innings pitched.

The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, April 25th when they host Nyack College for a conference doubleheader at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
