Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (3/25/21) The Dominican College baseball team earned a non-conference win over the Mavericks of Mercy College by a score of 6-2.
After the win, the Chargers improve to 5-3 overall on the season. The Mavericks fall to 3-3 after the loss.
The Chargers had 10 total hits in the game. Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras), Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.), and Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) each recorded two hits. Arthur Quinones (Miami, Fla.), Ryan Ruziecki (Lincroft, N.J.), Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic), and Tyler Patterson (East Meadow, N.Y.) all added one hit.
John Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) earned his first win of the season by pitching five shutout innings and recorded seven strikeouts. Oscarli Cruz (Haverstraw, N.Y.) entered the game in relief and pitched the final four innings to help secure the win.
For the Mavericks, Ryan Saltzman recorded one RBIS and Miguel Ortiz Sanchez added the second RBI.
The Chargers jumped in front in the first inning with an RBI single by Tyler Patterson. The Chargers added to their lead in the first inning when Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
In the second inning, the Chargers extended their lead to 3-0 after an RBI single by Ryan Ruziecki.
Ryan Saltzman put the Mavericks on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.
Max Chidsey hit a two-run homer to extend the DC lead to 5-1 in the third inning.
Mercy added a run in the bottom half of the third inning.
Brian Sanders added to the lead with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning and the Chargers went on to win the game 6-2.
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, March 27th when they host Chestnut Hill College for a conference doubleheader. Game one will begin at 12:00 PM and game two will follow at 3:00 PM.
