Pomona, N.Y. (4/26/21) The Dominican College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College.
The Griffins took game one by a score of 5-4 and then completed the sweep with a 19-7 win in game two.
The Chargers fall to 13-8 (6-6 CACC) and the Griffins improve to 13-12 (10-8 CACC).
Game One: The Griffins took game one over the Chargers by a score of 5-4. Billy Bethel recorded the win to improve his record to 3-2. Bethel recorded five strikeouts over 5.2 innings pitched.
Thomas Hughes recorded his first save of the season and recorded three strikeouts over 1.1 innings.
Brandon Mology (Wall Township, N.J.) started for the Chargers and recorded seven strikeouts over four innings of work.
Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y.) added three hits including a home run for DC and two RBIs. Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded three hits including two doubles.
Nathanael Slotkin (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) each added one hit Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) and Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic) each drove in one RBI.
For the Griffins, Ameir Uzzell recorded a double and two RBIs. Sam Barletta added one hit and one RBI. Patrick Meenan and Anthony Coombs added one RBI each.
The Griffins completed the comeback victory with a four-run sixth inning to jump out in front of DC 5-2. The Chargers cut the deficit to 5-4 on Garbuio's two-run homer, but the Griffins hold on for the 5-4 win.
Game Two: The Griffins completed the sweep with a 19-7 win in game two. Will Shaffer earned the win to improve to 2-3 on the season.
R.J. Huth drove in a team-high four RBIs in the win. Huth recorded two hits including a double and scored three runs. Ameir Uzzell recorded two hits and three RBIs.
Thomas Spratt added two hits and two RBIs. Nate O'Donnell added two RBIs.
For the Chargers, Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) added two hits including a double, and scored two runs. Joshua Colon added two hits including a triple and one RBI. Richard Paulino, William Desapio (Pearl River, N.Y.), Pavlos Papoutsakis (Westbury, N.Y.), and Carmine Giordano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) all recorded one RBI.
The Chargers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 27th when they host Goldey-Beacom College for a conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM and game two will start at 5:00 PM.
