MEN'S GOLF COACH WAYNE MACKEY RETIRES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (7/1/14) Dominican College Director of Athletics, Joseph S. Clinton, has announced that men's golf coach, Wayne Mackey, has decided to retire from coaching.
Orangeburg, N.Y. (7/1/14) Dominican College Director of Athletics, Joseph S. Clinton, has announced that men's golf coach, Wayne Mackey, has decided to retire from coaching.
Mackey has been at the helm of the Charger golf program for the past eight seasons. In his first season (2008), he was honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year. He had a player, Brian Mackey, win the East/Northeast Regional Championship and participate in the Division II National Championship in Houston, Texas, becoming the first athlete in DC history to compete in an NCAA National Championship.
"I would like to thank Wayne for all of his hard work and dedication to the golf program over the past eight years," said Clinton.
In his tenure at DC, Mackey has had three players qualify as individuals for the NCAA East Regional Tournament, a total of five NCAA East Regional Tournament appearances, won one Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship, seven All-CACC selections, five Ping All-Region players, 1 Ping All-American, six players enter professional golf, one CACC Conference Championship Medalist.
Mackey has also served as a member of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf East Region Advisory Committee since 2012 and was appointed to the Golf Coaches Assocation of America (GCAA) NCAA Div II East Region All-Region Selection Committee in 2013.
"Wayne has been an instrumental part in the making our golf program one of the most successful programs in our department," Clinton said. "He will be greatly missed by the staff and student-athletes in Athletics."
A search will begin immediately for his successor.
