Orangeburg, NY (1/25/11)  The Dominican College men's basketball team improved to 10-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play after turning back the visiting Clippers of Concordia College, 89-75, this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  DC completed a CACC series sweep over Concordia College and had also defeated them in a non-conference game.

The Clippers held a 9-7 lead with 16:42 left in the first half, when an 8-0 run, started by back-to-back treys from freshman guard Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, NY) and junior forward Michael Calzonetti (Gloucester, NJ), put DC ahead 15-9.  Later down 16-15, the Chargers went on a 15-5 tear to go up 11 points (31-20) with under eight minutes before the break.  Concordia closed out the final 2:20 with eight consecutive points to cut the deficit to 44-41.

A second half opening run of 9-2 by Dominican, capped off by an and-one play from freshman forward Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, NY) rebuilt a 53-43 lead with 15:25 remaining.  Concordia cut the lead to four points (56-52) with 12:07 left in the game, but that would be as close as they would get as Dominican scored the next nine points to go up 65-52 and would never look back en route to the 89-75 win.

Sophomore guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) led all scores with 25 points, going 10-12 from the charity stripe and had a game leading eight assists.  Senior center Almin Hodzic (Budd Lake, NJ) tallied 19 points, four blocks and seven rebounds, while forward Cory Quimby (Otisville, NY) had a season high 18 points, shooting 8-10 from the floor, off the bench.  Brown finished with a career high 12 caroms in the victory.

DC is back in action on Thursday evening when they travel to Philadelphia University for an 8pm CACC contest.
