PORTER LEADS CHARGERS OVER BENTLEY UNIVERSITY

(11/10/12) Senior guard, Leon Porter (Laurel, Md.) netted 14 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Dominican College men's basketball team to a 63-58 victory over host, Bentley University, in the finale of the Bentley Tip-Off Classic played at the Dana Center. With the win, Dominican improves to 1-1 overall, while Bentley falls to 1-1 on the season.

With the win, Dominican improves to 1-1 overall, while Bentley falls to 1-1 on the season.
Bentley opened the game with the first four points, but the Chargers went on a 13-3 run to claim a 13-7 lead with 13:11 left in the first stanza. The Falcons countered with a 16-6 run over the next four and a half minutes to regain a 23-19 advantage.
An 8-2 charge by Dominican, led by Porter who netted six of the eight points gave DC a 27-25 lead with 3:11 to go in the half and senior Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.) ended the half with a layup to tie the game at 29-29.
In the first half both team shot 40% from the floor as DC went 10-25 and Bentley went 12-30. The half saw four lead changes and four ties.
The second half was a different story as the Chargers shot 48% from the floor, including going 4-9 (44.4%) from the three point arc, to the Falcons 38.5% and a 1-10 peformance from beyond the arc.
A 7-2 Charger spurt started things off in the second half as Khaleev Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) and Porter connected for three point buckets and Quimby went 1-2 from the charity stripe put Dominican ahead for good at 36-31. The spurt grew into a 23-13 run that extend the Dominican lead to 10 points (52-42) with a little over seven-and-a-half minutes remaining in the contest.
The Falcons battled back to cut the lead to two points (54-52) with 2:51 on the clock, but Porter answered with an eight-foot jumper. Bentley came back with a basket to once again bring them within two points. Junior Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, N.Y.) came up big with a driving layup with 47 ticks left on the clock to stretch the Charger lead to four points (58-54).
Dominican went 5-6 from the free throw line the final 30 seconds, including four from Porter to secure the 63-58 victory.
Porter finished shooting 7-11 from the floor and 7-8 from the line in his season high 24 points.
Quimby finished with his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Chargers out shot Bentley 44% to 39% and out rebounded them 34-29.
Dominican is back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Concordia College.
