MEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS FRANKLIN PIERCE UNIVERSITY

(1/3/13) The Dominican College men's basketball team upended the Franklin Pierce University Ravens, 67-63 this evening in the finale of the 7th Annual James Clancy Memorial Basketball Tournament played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the victory Dominican finishes the tournament with a 2-0 record and improves to 11-2 on the season, while Franklin Pierce University falls to 8-2 overall.

With the victory Dominican finishes the tournament with a 2-0 record and improves to 11-2 on the season, while Franklin Pierce University falls to 8-2 overall.
The first half was tied at 11-all with just over twelve minutes to play when the Chargers charged ahead with a 12-2 run to go ahead 23-13 and went into the half with a seven-point advantage (34-27).
DC led 51-42 with 11:45 on the clock when the Ravens came back with nine straight points to tie the game at 51-51. Freshman guard Joe Clinton (Pearl River, N.Y.) regained the lead for Dominican with a three point bucket with 8:13 remaining, but FPU later re-tied the game and went ahead 61-58 with under four minutes to go.
Clinton went 1-2 from the charity stripe and Johnathan Brown (Central Islip, N.Y.) scored a layup to close the deficit for the Chargers and tie the game for the seventh time at 61-61. A.J. Burton (New Rochelle, N.Y.) hit to clutch free throws to put DC ahead for good as the team went on to the 67-63 victory.
Senior center Cory Quimby* (Otisville, N.Y.) led all scorers with his eighth consecutive double-double and ninth of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Leon Porter II (Laurel, Md.) tallied 13 points and a team leading five assists, while Burton finished with 10 points.
Forward Daniel Woods (Upper Marlboro, Md.) grabbed eight rebounds and Clinton finished with seven points.
In the first game of the evening, Le Moyne College held off Queens College, 62-54.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Wilmington University.
