Waterbury, Conn. (11/29/17) The Dominican College men's basketball squad opened up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with an 81-63 road victory over the Eagles of Post University in a game played this evening in the Drubner Center.

With the win, Dominican improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in CACC play.
Junior forward Ian Gardener (Nowalk, Conn.) posted a career high 27 points, going 12-18 from the floor and 3-4 from the three-point arc.
Sophomore Daniel Grant (Middletown, Conn.) netted 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals off the bench. while Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.), Austin John Huggins (Astoria, Queens) and Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) all contributed eight points a-piece in the victory.
Post (1-5, 0-1 CACC) was led by Darrick Boyd with 22 points, while Joseph Lockwood added 17 points and six rebounds.
The Eagles quickly jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, but the Chargers charged their way back and used a trey from Grant to cut the lead to 16-15 with 11:10 remaining in the first half. Grant followed with a layup to lead DC on a 10-0 spurt to go ahead, 22-16 with 9:03 on the clock. Dominican led 31-29 with under three minutes left and closed out the half, outscoring their opponents 10-2, to take their biggest lead of the game, 41-31.
Dominican would have their lead cut to six points (61-55) with 8:33 left in regulation, but a 15-2 Charger run would rebuild a 76-57 advantage and propel them to the 81-63 victory.
DC shot 50% (33-66) from the floor, went 8-17 (47.1%) from the three-point arc and went 7-8 (85.5%) from the charity stripe for the contest.
The Chargers continue their road trip as they travel to conference opponent, Bloomfield College, this coming Saturday for a 1pm game.
