CHARGERS BOUNCE BACK FROM LOSS TO BLOOMFIELD WITH WIN OVER CONCORDIA

Bronxville, N.Y. (12/5/17) The Chargers traveled to Concordia College in hopes to bounce back from their first loss of the season to Bloomfield. Dominican fell for the first time in their first six games and it was their first loss in the conference. The Clippers were also looking for their first conference win against the Chargers in Tuesday.
The Chargers jumped out of the gate early scoring the game's first 15 points before the Clippers finally recorded their first points of the game just over four minutes in. The Chargers were in control of the game for a good portion of the first half extending their lead over the Clippers to 26-12. The Clippers fought their way back into the game in the back end of the first half by outscoring the Chargers 23- 14. Cedrick McFadden led the Clippers in the first half with 10 points while teammate Stephen Milhaven added seven points for the Clippers in efforts to help their team fight their way back into the game.
Dominican had two players score in double figures in the first half to lead the them to a 40-35 lead. Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) and Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) both recorded 11 points in the half. Gardener pulled down a team leading seven rebounds in the half and Charles grabbed five rebounds in the half. The Chargers jumped out to the early lead, but the Clippers closed the gap before halftime and were in good position to take control of the game out of the break.
A back and forth second half saw eight lead changes between the two teams in a hard-fought half. The Clippers started off the second half by grabbing their first lead of the game within the first five minutes of the half. The Clippers continued their strong start to the second half by extending to their largest lead of the game with just under ten minutes to play in the game. Dominican continued to answer the Clippers by coming back and hanging around. Concordia was never able to extend their lead to no more than four points over the Chargers.
With just under five minutes left to play, the Charger's Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) scored to put the Chargers on top over the Clippers for good. DC then extended their lead to 74-67 and never looked back for the 78-72 win. The Chargers improved to 6-1 (2-1 CACC) early on this season.
As a team, the Chargers didn't shoot well from beyond the arc but managed to outscore the Clippers 52-32 in the paint making up for their 16.7% shooting from three-point range. The Chargers also outrebounded the Clippers 47-32 and scored 21 second chance points to go along with it.
Gardener and Charles both finished with double-doubles in the win, with Gardener scoring 22 points and recorded 10 rebounds. Charles finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
Garcia finished with 10 points scored in the game while Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) and Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) added eight points each. Austin John Huggins (Astoria, Queens) scored eight points in eight minutes off the bench.
The Chargers will host Nyack College on Saturday at 3:00 PM for their first home game in three weeks. The Chargers will look to continue their strong start to the season with a win against the Warriors.
