MEN'S BASKETBALL TURN BACK NYACK COLLEGE IN 2ND ANNUAL MIKE COFFEY GAME

(12/9/17) The Dominican College men's basketball team turned back the visiting Warriors of Nyack College, 67-51, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center. Today as was the 2nd Annual Mike Coffey Game as the Chargers honored the former assistant coach, Mike Coffey.

Today as was the 2nd Annual Mike Coffey Game as the Chargers honored the former assistant coach, Mike Coffey.
Prior to the start Dominican College Director of Athletics and Head Men's Basketball Coach, Joseph S. Clinton, spoke fondly of the beloved and missed Mike Coffey and acknowledged his brother Matthew Coffey, who is a current red-shirt student-athlete on the men's basketball team.
Dominican improves to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Warriors fall to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the CACC.
Sophmore Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) produced a game best 20 points (8-14 from the floor, 4-4 from the foul line in the win).
Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) grabbed an afternoon best nine rebounds and added 16 points (7-13 from the floor).
Sophomore Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) had a game best six assists and had seven rebounds in the win.
The Warriors were led by Curtis Thompson who scored 11 points off the bench.
Nyack jumped out to a 12-4 lead early in the first half and led 22-14 with 7:11 left in the half when the Chargers charged back into the game with eight straight points, including back-to-back baskets from Gardener to tie the game, 22-22. A Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) free throw gave DC their first lead of the contest, 23-22 and Dominican closed out the half on a 11-8 run to pull infront, 34-30 at the intermission.
A 4-0 spurt to begin the second half increased the Chargers lead to 38-30 and consecutive buckets from Rodwell would give DC their biggest lead, 42-31 with 17:10 left in regulation and they would maintain a double-digit lead throughout the reminder of the game.
The Chargers return to action on Thursday night as they host non-conference opponent, Southern Connecticut State University.
