DOMINICAN FALLS TO CHESTNUT HILL IN BACK AND FORTH GAME
Philadelphia, Pa. (1/16/18) The Chargers have won four in a row and were looking for their fifth straight win against the struggling Griffins of Chestnut Hill College.
Philadelphia, Pa. (1/16/18) The Chargers have won four in a row and were looking for their fifth straight win against the struggling Griffins of Chestnut Hill College. Dominican entered the game in sole possession of second place in the north division of the conference standings. The Chargers, who are right behind division leading Bloomfield, are looking to keep pace on Tuesday.
In the first half, the Griffins jumped out in front early on Dominican scoring 13 points in the first five minutes of the game. The Chargers used a 10-0 run to jump out in front for the first time in the game. The Griffins were able to answer the Chargers by regaining the lead and continued to play strong early. In the closing minutes of the first half, the Chargers took the lead but it was short lived as the Griffins were able to answer Dominican again and took a two-point lead into the break.
Chris Evans and Demetrious Isaac both tallied 14 points for the Griffins which led all scorers in the first half. Evans recorded five rebounds in the half while Isaac pulled down four rebounds for Chestnut Hill. Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) led the Chargers in the first half with nine points and recorded two steals as well as three assists and three rebounds. The Griffins were perfect from the free throw line in the half making all 10 of their free throw attempts which was one of the key stats which helped the Griffins control most of the first half
The Griffins extended their lead out to eight points over the Chargers but the Chargers were able to answer back and stay in the game for the duration of the second half. The Chargers used an 11-2 run to tie the game at 60-60 with just 33 seconds left to go in the game.
Before the Chargers scored to tie the game, both teams went scoreless for almost three minutes before Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied the game and broke the three-minute scoreless streak for both teams. With time winding down, Isaac was fouled with eight seconds to go in the game which sent him to the free throw line with a chance to put the Griffins in front. Isaac made 1 of 2 from the line and Dominican had possession of the ball with 8 seconds and a chance to win the game.
Grant had a chance to win the game as time was winding down and his layup attempt was blocked by the Griffins' Tony Toplyn Jr and the Griffins secured the win by a final score of 61-60 over the Chargers.
Dominican fell to 12-5 (6-2 CACC) on the season with the loss but have had a strong season so far up to this point. Grant finished with 16 points in the loss as well as six rebounds, four assists and three steals in 40 minutes played.
The Chargers will be back in action on Sunday January 21st when they host Georgian Court University which will be the first game of a three-game home stand.
